Our Mission
Gear, rivers, and the long game
Caddis Shack exists to make buying and selling used fly fishing gear as fast and frictionless as possible — and to keep that gear in anglers' hands instead of landfills. We also believe the rivers that make this sport worth caring about deserve to be protected. Those two things are not unrelated.
The Smoothest Possible Experience
Buying and selling gear should not be complicated. We built Caddis Shack to eliminate the friction that makes peer-to-peer transactions feel risky or slow — automated escrow, prepaid labels generated in seconds, real-time tracking, and payouts that hit sellers' accounts without them having to chase anything down.
Every design decision on this platform runs through a single question: is this the fastest and clearest way to get the job done? We are not finished asking it.
Reducing Waste Through Circulation
The fishing industry produces an enormous amount of gear every year. A significant portion of it ends up sitting in closets, or worse, discarded. A rod that no longer fits your casting style fits someone else's perfectly. A reel that you upgraded away from is exactly what a new angler needs.
By making the resale market easy and trustworthy, we extend the useful life of every piece of gear that passes through this platform. Less new production. Less waste. More fishing.
1% for the Climate — Stripe Climate
Caddis Shack is a Stripe Climate member. We contribute 1% of every transaction to fund carbon removal technologies through Stripe's climate initiative. These are not offsets — they are direct contributions to frontier technologies like direct air capture and enhanced weathering that permanently remove CO₂ from the atmosphere.
This is a floor, not a ceiling. The 1% runs automatically on every sale processed through the platform. No opt-in required, no fine print.
Protecting the Rivers
The rivers that hold wild trout are not guaranteed. Water rights, development pressure, warming temperatures, and degraded riparian habitat have put some of the best fisheries in the country under real stress. We take that personally.
Beyond the 1% climate pledge, we will at our discretion direct additional funds toward environmental organizations working to protect, restore, and defend the river systems that make this sport possible. We are not going to make promises about amounts or schedules — but we will do it, and we will be transparent when we do.
Rivers are not infrastructure. They are not a backdrop. They are the whole point. We are not willing to take them for granted.
Built by Anglers, for Anglers
This platform was built by people who fish. We understand what it feels like to overpay for gear, to get burned on a private sale, or to watch good water disappear. Caddis Shack is our answer to all three.
If you have thoughts on how we can do better — on the platform, on the environmental side, on anything — reach out at support@caddisshack.com. We read it.
